This is the third item in my series of Summer Must-Haves. Check out previous items: The Striped Dress and Nude Shoes!
Sunny days and hot weather call for lighter clothing, not only in weight but in also in color. The lighter color reflects light to keep you cool and gives off a light-weight, airy vibe that matches Summer weather. While I love darker clothing and gravitate towards black, I have to admit that darker jeans can come off as serious and heavy when it’s warm outside.
Below I’ll break down several different options for lighter jeans. If white is too light for you, check out how to wear the classic light blue jeans or a modern colored jean:
Light blue jeans
The classic light blue jean can be worn with pretty much anything. From white to black, any color will work and there is even a denim-on-denim trend right now, so a denim shirt is not off limits. During the Summer, I especially love light blue jeans paired with grey, other shades of blue, and white. Boyfriend jeans are a great way to make the look more interesting and fresh.
White jeans
People are often scared of white jeans, thinking that they’re only for skinny women. This is not the case! The key is to find thicker white jeans so that underwear and pocket linings don’t show through in the bright sun and to size up. Sizing up will minimize creasing which is more noticeable in white jeans than other colors because the shadows of the creases are more accentuated against the white.
If you have a strong shoulder line and small hips, white jeans will add bulk to your bottom half and even out your proportion. Those of you with larger hips and smaller upper-body (myself included!) need to be careful not to wear form fitting or darker tops with white jeans as it will create a bottom heavy look.
Colored jeans in modern colors
The colored jean trend is still going strong after several years! This Spring, you’ll see a lot of mint, blush (light pink), and pastel colors that can easily serve as a fresh alternative to the class light blue jeans. You can pair these colors with each other or with white, grey, and light blue. A striped, gingham or polka dot shirt could also be worn to add pattern to the look.
